Frequently Asked Questions about DVHCC

What is the Delaware Valley Health Care Coalition, Inc.?      Return to top
The Delaware Valley Health Care Coalition, Inc. (DVHCC) is a voluntary association comprised of health, welfare and pension  funds, each of which is governed by a joint board of management and labor trustees.

DVHCC members are instrumental in the establishment and the continued growth of a health care purchasing network, which now covers over 1,867,152 lives.

What are the primary objectives of the Coalition?      Return to top
The Delaware Valley Health Care Coalition was primarily founded to ensure quality health care and to control and reduce health care costs through deep discount mass purchasing while allowing each Health & Pension Fund to stay autonomous, and to ensure the availability of innovative, quality health care delivery systems for participants of the plans and their beneficiaries.

DVHCC also promotes research, collection of data and legal review for the purpose of education, awareness and informational exchange.

How does DVHCC reach its primary objectives?      Return to top
By joining together as a large group to negotiate with health care providers, members of DVHCC are afforded the opportunity to join and create one of the largest and fastest growing health care networks in the following 11 states:
PA, DE, NJ, OH, KS, NY, MD, DC, CA, MA & WV.

By raising public awareness of the need for improvements in the health care delivery systems, DVHCC encourages interest in promoting health care reform.

By addressing mutual concerns, DVHCC members are the essential, initial participants in an innovative and dynamic health care purchasing network.

How does the Coalition reduce the price of services?      Return to top
DVHCC intends to offer its members a Preferred Provider Network which allows each fund the freedom of structuring its own benefit package. This is done by obtaining provider discounts in return for volume, prompt payment and exclusive access to patients. Participation in this network will result not only in reduced costs but also in improved access to services and increased satisfaction of plan participants.

Members also help control health care by exchanging innovative and cost saving methods for providing health care. Members also share their experiences and ideas concerning health coverage.

How can the Coalition help in Member Funds maximize their purchasing power?      Return to top
Although DVHCC was founded to help Member Funds control and reduce health care costs through mass purchasing, the Coalition’s purchasing power is being used to achieve discounts for its Members Funds in insurance, both automobile and fiduciary liability, dental coverage, eye glass and hearing aid benefits, and automobile purchasing and leasing. The Coalition will continue to use its mass purchasing power to leverage discounts for its Member Funds.

By joining the DVHCC does the member fund lose any of its autonomy?      Return to top
No. Any fund can use or not use any product the Coalition offers. Should they use a product the provider will tailor this product to comply with the individual fund’s guidelines. No loss of autonomy will occur.
